RELIGION 7: The Story of Jesus
UNIT 8: Good News Travels Fast
SPOILER ALERT! Here’s how the Bible ends: God wins, and His people live happily ever after. The first four books of the New Testament – the Gospels – describe the life and teachings of Jesus Christ. The twenty-three books that follow tell us about the early Christians… what they did, what they believed, and how they struggled to carry out the Great Commission given to them before Jesus ascended: go make disciples of all nations. This unit will consider the other books of the New Testament after the four Gospels and how the canon of Scripture came about. Unit 8 Handout: The Rest of the Story UNIT 7: Resurrection & Pentecost
As Christians, we are disciples of the living God. Jesus Christ -- the God-made-man who died to save us -- has risen from the dead, with the promise that we too can have eternal life. The bodily resurrection of Jesus is not merely a historical fact (though it is that), it is a foreshadowing of what awaits us at the end of time. In this unit, we will consider what we believe about the resurrection, why we believe it, and how we can enthusiastically share this belief with others. Saint Paul tells us: "If Christ has not been raised, your faith is in vain." (1 Corinthians 15:17) UNIT 6: Passion Narratives
When Christians decided to write down their recollections of Jesus, the first thing they wrote about was his passion, death and resurrection. They believed, as we believe now, that Christ's death and resurrection saves us from sin and gives us the promise of eternal life. This is called the Paschal Mystery. In this unit, we will explore the meaning of Jesus' words: "There is no greater love than this -- to lay down one's life for a friend" (John 15:13). Combined Unit 6 Notes How You'll Earn Your Grade

About this Class:
Who is Jesus Christ, and what relevance does he have for us today? This course examines these and other questions, considering what is revealed about Him through Scripture and the Tradition of the Church. Our textbook is Blest Are We: The Story of Jesus by RCL Benziger. We will also use the New American Bible and the Catechism of the Catholic Church. ANIMA CHRISTI
Soul of Christ, sanctify me. Body of Christ, save me. Blood of Christ, inebriate me. Water from the side of Christ, wash me. Passion of Christ, strengthen me. O Good Jesus, hear me. Within thy wounds, hide me. Separated from thee, let me never be. From the enemy, defend me. In the hour of my death, call me, And bid me come to thee, That with thy saints I may praise thee, Forever and ever. Amen. |
